Fighting off the crowds in sunny Blackpool, June 1984.

This is the first day I tried "screeving" (pavement art with chalk and charcoal) it wasn't all bleak. By day's end I'd made more money, albeit in small change, than in any previous working day. My new career showed promise.

The following image is from Sheffield 1985, a typical day on the street. The crowds gathered like northern clouds in a summer sky. Small change fell like rain, a sound like sweet music.
